Live in a Landmark? Augustus & Andrew Scott Mansion, Richmond Indiana

The grand Italianate Mansion at 126 N 10th Street is for sale at a bargain price of 84,500 and will require a preservation minded buyer to be a good steward of this National Registered Landmark. There are protective exterior covenants.

The Augustus C. and Andrew F. Scott home: Augustus C. Scott is listed primarily as a stock dealer while Andrew F. was an original stockholder of the First National Bank of Richmond in 1863.  He also became the first director, an original officer, and president of the Second National Bank until his death in 1895. The 2nd National bailed out both the Farmers Bank in Boston and the Richmond National Bank in 1884 when they ran short of money.
The house was willed to the Wayne County Historical Museum in 1977 and when the restoration is completed it will be opened to the public.  In 2008 it went into private ownership (with covenants) It is one of the few remaining housed in which several generations of the same family lived, leaving the house in almost original condition.

Exquisite ceiling medallions, fine mantels and 4356 Sq. feet , 5 bedrooms, 1 full and 2 half baths. The home sits on 1/3 acre and has a two car garage. This house is subject to short sale approval. Property taxes are high (over 3000 yearly), but should adjust based on sold price plus owner occupied, homestead and mortgage  exemption would greatly reduce the tax liability. Indiana has a 1 percent property tax cap for owner occupied homes.

The light fixtures in this house are remarkable and while the house could use some interior restoration, but this is a great place to start.

Imagine this house full of period antiques.
